HEALTH & SAFETY STATEMENT

The Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) applies to everyone at work giving responsibilities to both employers and employees. They also protect other people who might be affected by work operations such as contractors or members of the public.  Breaches of the Act may be a criminal offence and lead to prosecution.  The Directors of G.A.W. Associates Ltd. believe that there are sound business reasons for adapting a reasonable approach to the environmental effects of our activities and also recognise the known environmental effects of our activities.  In order to increase the management effectiveness for providing the necessary services, the company has developed an integral management system for Quality, Health & Safety, Welfare and Environment consistent with the requirements of ISO 9002; 1994 BS 8800 and ISO14001.

All G.A.W. Associates Ltd. employees have been provided with this information and are aware of both their personal responsibilities and those of the company, together with the arrangements made for health and safety.  G.A.W. Associates Ltd. aims to act as a good employer in all matters relating to health and safety at work.  It also accepts responsibility for making sure that the conduct of its affairs is not harmful to the health and safety of employers or any other people affected by its activities.  In particular the law requires G.A.W. Associates Ltd. to:

·        make sure that the working environment is safe.

·        provide and maintain equipment, premises and systems of work which are safe and do not endanger health.

·        provide safety information, instructions, training and supervision as necessary.

·        provide and maintain safe access to and exit from any place of work.

Furthermore, G.A.W. Associates Ltd. shall as far as is reasonably practical:

·        provide Management committed to the effective implementation of this Policy.

·        provide effective training and supervision with regard to Health & Safety issues to all employees, commensurate with working responsibilities.

·        provide effective supervision, at all levels, to monitor and ensure compliance with this Policy.

·        ensure that all places of work are established and maintained in a manners that safeguards both employees and members of the public from any undue risk to their Health & Safety resulting from G.A.W. Associates Ltd. operations.

·        require all employees to comply with the company's Health & Safety Rules, Regulations and Procedures and to take reasonable care of the Health & Safety of both themselves, work colleagues and members of the general public that may be affected by their acts or omissions.

·        ensure that all tools, plant, equipment and vehicles used in the work process are maintained in a safe condition and are compliant with all statutory requirements.

·        investigate, analyse and report all accidents involving the company and/or its employees and the general public, and to act effectively on the lessons learned to improve the company's safety record.

These undertakings are carried out by the company through managers at all levels.  In order to assist them in the discharge of these responsibilities and to help and advise all G.A.W. Associates Ltd. employees, a safety organisation is maintained. Specialist advisors and support are available when required.

All G.A.W. Associates Ltd. employees will be adequately trained, equipped and instructed to perform their own work in a safe and effective manner.  Ultimately everyone in G.A.W. Associates Ltd. has a personal responsibility for safety and under the law, duties are imposed on all employees to:

·        take reasonable care of their own health and safety at work.

·        co-operate with any actions their employer might take to comply with the law.

·        avoid placing other people at risk.

·        not misuse items which have been provided in the interests of health and safety.

·        report any work situation which might represent a serious or imminent danger.

The company recognises that it cannot achieve its aims and responsibilities by management action alone. Therefore, regular consultation with the staff and managers will be maintained and developed as necessary.
